TransEuropa Ferries sailing from Ostend will work together with the French shipping company LD Lines for the link between Ramsgate – Oostende. The former RMT – ferry Prins Filip will return back to Ostend and will be renamed as Ostend-Spirit. The news was announced by Port Master Johan Vande Lanotte.
The Prins Filip is the most well-known ship from the former Belgian Ferry Company: RMT (Regie voor Maritiem Transport, a company under State control). It was put into service from 1992 between Ostend and Dover after which it sailed between Ramsgate and Ostend till 1997. Since 2005 it was in the hands of LD Lines and sailed as the Norman Spirit to serve the link between Dover-Boulogne
It should be an emotional and symbolic event for Ostend when the former Prins Filip will enter the port of Ostend again since its last voyage between Ostend and Ramsgate in 1997.
The Ostend Spirit will provide two crossings a day. The link Ramsgate-Ostend focuses on accompanied vehicles, campers and motorbikes. At the moment there is no provision for foot passengers.
The time table for the start of the operations is sheduled between 15 and 30 March.
