Genealogy and Church Archives – Ostend.
Dear visitors,
We often get requests for genealogical information about members of the English Community or from people who lived or served here in any way in the 19th and 20th century.
The church in Ostend was consecrated in 1865 but the English Community in Ostend goes way back to the 1780’s when Reverend John Trevor was in charge of the English community between 1783 – 1794.
Unfortunately, despite the time span from the 1780’s till now we don’t have a backroom stuffed full of old files or archives. Two world wars wiped most of the archives we had while what was left, somehow found its way to the National Archives in England.
Occasionally we are able to get some information from people making inquiries about their ancestors which gives us some building blocks for the history of our community. We managed to compile a list of Chaplains – Priests with the help of local publications and the archives of the Town of Ostend. It is far from complete and any information or data relating to our Church’s history that you would like to share with us would be most welcome.
